Volunteering at American Family Housing:

Volunteers serve a critical role in American Family Housing. Each year volunteers help further AFH’s Mission and Vision by providing services to the homeless in our communities. Our events and annual goals could not be met without the selfless generosity of persons who volunteer their time and expertise to help those in need. There are many ways for you to get involved. Homeless families and individuals face many challenges and deeply rooted societal problems that can only be solved if all we work together. Here are some of the ways you can help make a difference in the lives of our neighbors and make the world a better place for all.

Children’s Program:

Offer homework help, help with arts and craft projects, play games.

Coming together to make a HOME. Projects such as Potter’s Lane.

Earth Day Service Projects:

Monday Social Nights:

Hands-on experience, job training in the field of social work, grant writing, marketing and development.

Holiday Projects:

Feeding the community for Thanksgiving. Helping with the Annual Easter Picnic.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner 2017

In 2016, American Family Housing served 1,000 meals to homeless and less fortunate families and adults in our community. This goal was only met because of our generous community members who donated items for the dinner and their time helping AFH host the event. We are aiming to feed 1,500 people this year. Please consider supporting American Family Housing’s annual community Thanksgiving dinner by donating the following items:

  • 30 cartons of chicken broth (Swanson 32 oz)
  • 75 stuffing turkey mix (Kraft Stove Top 12 oz)
  • 35 boxes of instant mashed potatoes (Idahoan 26 oz)
  • 40 jars of turkey gravy (Heinz 18 oz)
  • 40 jars of chicken gravy (Heinz 18 oz)
  • 150 cans of yams (Bruce’s Yams 40 oz)
  • 100 cans of string beans (Del Monte 50 oz)
  • 100 cans of whole berry cranberry (Ocean Spray 14 oz)
  • 40 fresh pumpkin pies (Please deliver on Nov 21st)
  • 40 fresh apple pies (Please deliver on Nov 21st)
(Above are listed preferred brands so that it would be easier to prepare a uniform meal, thank you.)

Volunteer Agreement

Once you have signed up for a specific volunteer event or assignment, you will need to fill out a Volunteer Agreement Form and bring it with you on your first day of service. Click here to download a copy of the Volunteer Agreement PDF. Note: Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent’s signature on their Volunteer Agreement Form.

Volunteer Application

American Family Housing is now utilizing a Volunteer Management System to improve efficiencies. It only takes about 3 minutes to add yourself to our volunteer database by completing an online American Family Housing Volunteer Application (below). This Volunteer Application is not required before signing-up for our large events, but by filling out a Volunteer Application, you will be the first to receive recruitment notices for all upcoming volunteer opportunities. Entering your profile in our database also helps us match you to projects and activities you might enjoy.

Adult Volunteer Application (individuals age 18 and over)
Youth Volunteer Application (individuals under age 18)
Volunteer Group Application (clubs and businesses)

Once again, we thank you VERY much for sharing your talents and time with American Family Housing as we serve families and individuals in need!
